George E. Speer   I am a Veteran.
September 6, 1944  -  September 14, 2017

Neodesha — George E. Speer, 73, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Wilson Medical Center following a multi-year battle with Leukemia.
He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Greta (Crandell) Speer; his sister, Jeanie Speer; his son, Neal St. Cricq and his wife, Samantha; his daughter, Fraya (Crandell) Stites and her husband Ben; his daughter, Clelleshia Martin and her husband Robert; his daughter, Shari (Speer) Fox and her husband Charles; his grandchildren: Recaya, Mica, Corban, Erin, Jessica, Payton, Charlie, and Corey; his great-grandchildren: Taylor, Austin, Chase, Carrie, Zander, and Beckett; one great great-grandchild, Aniston.
George was a lifelong resident of Kansas. Born in Eureka and raised in Fall River, he was the son of Willard and Agnes (Walta) Speer. Preceding him in death are his parents, Willard and Agnes; his brother, Johnny Speer; and his best friend, Donnie Rex Shinkle.
After graduating from Fall River High School in 1962, he worked on his family farm until 1970, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He met his wife, Greta of Wichita, during his service. He was honorably discharged in 1971.
During and after serving with the U.S. Army, he worked for Frisco Railroad. George worked for the railroad faithfully until he retired in 2006. He loved his work and enjoyed watching the trains pass by until the day he passed away. He loved sharing his passion with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, alike. He will forever be near his beloved trains, as his burial plot is beneath a sprawling oak tree next to the railroad tracks.
George could do it all from construction to farming. He spent much of his life fulfilling the many visions that his wife dreamt up. He and Greta devoted their life to traveling the country in their motorhome.
George was the shirt-off-his back kind of guy and was adored by all his family and friends. A huge void has been left by his death and he will be greatly missed.
A grave-side memorial service will be held on October 16th at 1:00 pm at the Neodesha Cemetery. George wished to be laid to rest with his father, Willard, therefore the service will honor both men and their lifelong bond.
