Arthur Bill Woods Sr. Arthur Bill W. Woods, Sr. of Neodesha died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the Golden Living Center. He was 84. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Neodesha. Pastor Dallas Martin will officiate. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Military honors will be afforded by Fort Riley, KS. Friends may call to register on Tuesday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. The son of Orville H. and Laura Ellen Peters Woods, he was born June 17, 1923, in Williston, ND. He was raised in the Pittsburg, KS, area where he received his education. Mr. Woods was united in marriage to Blanche Peek in 1939 and they were later
orced. He married Donna Davis Hopkins on February 12, 1971, in Independence. She survives at the home. Bill was employed by Prestige Cabinets for 28 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1995. Prior to that, he had been a coal miner for 18 years for the Wilkerson Coal Company in Weir, KS. He was also ordained as a minister for the Southern Baptist Church and served churches in southeast Kansas. He served with the US Army as a combat infantryman in the Philippines and the South Pacific during WWII where he received the Purple Heart. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Trudy High and Betty Singhurst, both of Independence, KS; two step-sons, James Hopkins of Independence, KS, and Timothy Hopkins of Chanute, KS; one sister, Helen Boyeston of Texas; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Arthur William Woods, Jr.; one brother, Howard; three sisters, Lois, Ruth and Bernice; and two grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the donors choice and may be left at the funeral home.
