Betty J. Piatt Betty Jean Piatt of Neodesha, KS, died Monday, September 8, 2008, at Wilson Medical Center Reece Campus. She was 83. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008, at the Grace Baptist Church under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Pastor Jim Logan will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery. Mrs. Piatt will lie in state on Wednesday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family may be contacted at their homes. The daughter of Ted Harold and Gertrude Files Davis, she was born September 18, 1924, in Neodesha, KS. She received her education in Neodesha. On January 10, 1942, she was united in marriage to James L. Piatt Jr. in Independence, KS. The couple lived in Neodesha nearly all of their married life where Mrs. Piatt was a homemaker. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and served as the head of the Fellowship Committee for a number of years. She loved her church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Jim, at the Gran Villas in Neodesha; three sons, Jerry of Neodesha, Dean of Madison, KS, and Don of Springfield, MO; two sisters, Janice Brown and Rosemary Johnson, both of Neodesha; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold and Donnie. Memorial contributions may be made either to the Grace Baptist Church or The Gideons International and may be left at the funeral home.
