Charles A. Smith Charles Albert Smokey Smith of Neodesha, KS, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at the Wilson County Hospital. He was 81. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, at Christ Church under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. The Reverend Dave Cheshier will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from noon-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The son of William Harry and Sadie Smith Smith, he was born July 4, 1925, in Walnut, KS. He attended from Fort Scott High School. On November 4, 1944, he was united in marriage to Juanita Sheets in Fort Scott. In 1960, the couple moved to Neodesha from Redfield, KS. She survives at the home. Mr. Smith was longtime employee of the Frisco Railroad, serving as an agent for 35 years before retiring. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Charlie Smith and wife Cozy of Sycamore, KS, Tom Smith and wife Linda of Neodesha, and Harry Smith and wife Shelia of Independence, KS; one daughter, Barb Hull and husband Leland of Fort Scott, KS; 16 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Harry and Jewell LeRoy. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association and may be left at the funeral home.
