Don West Sr.

Don E. West Sr., 82, formerly of Canton, Ohio, and Neodesha, Kansas, died Tuesday morning at Craig General Hospital in Vinita, Oklahoma. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Christ Church in Neodesha under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. The family will receive friends after the service and refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Craig County Healthcare Foundation, 735 N. Foreman, Vinita, Oklahoma 74301. Mr. Wests ashes will be entombed in North Lawn Cemetery in Canton, Ohio. Friends may call to register at the funeral home on Friday from 8 a.m.5 p.m. Mr. West was born June 10, 1928, in Canton, Ohio, the son of Forrest and Grace Latimer West. He married Louise Welsbacher on August 29, 1946, in Canton, Ohio. She survives at the home. He graduated from Timken High School in Canton, Ohio in 1946. In 1950, he received a Business Degree from Mount Union College in Ohio. Don began his career in the kitchen cabinet industry at Republic Steel Company in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1952. He continued to work his way up in the industry at Yorktown Cabinets and to the position of President at Riviera Cabinets. He held a position within the industry as President of the National Kitchen Cabinet Association. The highlight of his career was serving as coowner and ViceChairman of Prestige Inc. of Neodesha, Kansas from 19812004. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Shelly WestThompson and her husband Bruce Thompson of Webster, New York. A son, Don E. West Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Independence, KS and one sister, Ann Kattner of Safety Harbor, Florida.
