Donna Kaye Meigs

September 16, 1946 — July 12, 2023

Altoona, Kansas

The world lost a beautiful soul last Thursday. Donna Kaye (Mitchell) Meigs passed away unexpectedly at the age of 76 at 11:15 am on July 12, 2023.

Donna Kaye Mitchell was born on September 16, 1946, in Pittsburg, Kansas to Harry W. and Della D. (Trisler) Mitchell. Donna was the third of four children. She grew up and attended school in Opolis, Kansas, and graduated from Southeast High School in Cherokee, Kansas. She also attended Bible College in Alberta, Canada.

During her twenties, Donna worked various jobs, including at Parsons State Hospital. While there she was introduced by a co-worker to her future husband and love of her life, Howard Vincent Meigs. They were united in marriage on February 6th, 1972, in Crestline, Kansas. Donna and Vince enjoyed 44 years together and could often be seen holding hands. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters - Julie and Christina.

While Donna enjoyed doing things on her own, such as embroidery and working with plastic canvas, she almost always accompanied Vince to various motor events, such as demolition derbies, and tractor pulls. In their younger days, Vince raced dirt bikes and Donna could sometimes be found racing the other wives on mini bikes. Donna and Vince enjoyed traveling to Branson and cruising on the Branson Belle Showboat.

For the majority of her working years, Donna operated a daycare. She opened her home and heart to many children over the years. Donna truly loved all the children in her care. She retired from being a daycare provider in 2013.

In addition to her two children, Donna had five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, with another great-grandchild expected in January. Donna’s grandchildren were the most important thing in the world to her. She loved visiting with them, playing, and always asked Julie and Chrisy how the kids were doing.

Donna was a member of the Altoona Christian Church, where she always assisted with the Vacation Bible School, and then the Neodesha Nazarene Church, where she served as a previous luncheon planner and was a member of the Women of Faith.

Donna recently resided at Neodesha Care and Rehab.

Donna is survived by her daughters Julie Spieth, Altoona, Christina (Bob) Keller, Neodesha, one sister Pat Jones, Parsons, grandchildren James (Kirstyn) Spieth, Lawrence, KS, Jessica Spieth, Palm Bay, FL, Kyle Savage, Neodesha, Emma Savage, Neodesha, and one great-grandchild, Kessler Spieth, Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Della Mitchell, brothers Billy and Raymond “Sonny” Mitchell, one granddaughter, Cierra Denise Harrod, and husband Howard “Vince” Meigs.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 19th, from 5:00-7:00 pm, at Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Thursday, July 20th, at 10:00 am, at Neodesha Nazarene Church. Internment and graveside service will take place at Altoona Cemetery, Altoona, Kansas, following the service. A luncheon will be served at the Altoona Fire Department.
