Dorothy was born on April 25, 1928, in Augusta, Kansas to Asa Creed Scott and Hazel Viola Scott. She grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1946.
Before and after graduation she worked as a long-distance operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. It was during this time that she was introduced by her little brother, Jerry, to the handsome gas station attendant down the street.
Dale Casteel and Dorothy were united in marriage on September 3, 1946. They were best of friends until Dale's unfortunate passing in June of 1998. During these 52 years they both touched the lives of countless people, Dorothy as the school secretary at Central Elementary before moving to the newly built Heller Elementary in Neodesha and Dale as the instrumental music instructor at Neodesha High School and Independence Community College. Dorothy often referred to all of the wonderful students she called her "second family."
Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Neodesha Chapter of BPW of which she was named Woman of the Year in 1993, was a member of the Sugar and Spice Bridge Club, the Birthday Club, and the Glitzy Dozen Red Hat Ladies.
Dorothy is survived by son; Michael Casteel and wife Pat of Fredonia; daughter Kimberly Raida of Thayer; son Mark Casteel and wife Marci of Neodesha; as well as grandchildren Chad Raida (Amanda), Mandy Whitworth (Nick), Cali Whittley (Shawn) of Thayer, Chase Casteel (Jenna) of El Dorado, KS, Dodge Casteel of Wichita, KS, Alanna Temple (T.J.), West Plains, MO, Alyssa Sims (Justin), Fredonia, KS, and Alaura Sharp, Ruston, LA. She was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren that brought such great joy to her in the last few years of her life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel, her father A.C., her brothers James Scott, Charles Scott, and Jerry Scott, her sister Colleen Astle, and nephews William Astle and Asa Ray Scott.
