Dorothy E. Heaton, 86 of Neodesha, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Neodesha, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at the PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011 with Reverend Carl Soliday, pastor of the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene officiating. Friends may call to register on Friday, April 15 from noon until 4:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach, California. Dorothy Eleanor Heaton was born on July 11, 1924 to Wilbert F. Johnson and Hilma J. Hawkinson Johnson in Herington, Kansas. She attended and graduated from Chanute High School in 1942 and then went on to attend the Research Nursing School in Kansas City, Missouri graduating in 1945 as a Registered Nurse. After receiving her nurses training she signed up to serve in the US Army Corp but the War shortly thereafter ended and so she then went to work at Jackson County Hospital and then to the Lansing Prison as a nurse. She married Maxwell C. Heaton on April 03, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri, he preceded her death on April 09, 1992. After her marriage to Maxwell, the couple made their home in 1970 in Redondo Beach, California, where she worked as a RN in the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Los Angeles, California until her retirement in 1986. Dorothy moved back to Neodesha in 2005 to be near her family. Dorothy was a very active member of the Beach City Christian Fellowship Church in Hermosa Beach, California and also held membership in the Salvation Army, Disabled Veterans and the American Legion. Survivors include a sister, Joan Martin of Neodesha and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, William A. Johnson and Roderick V. Johnson.
