Edward L. Davis Edward L. Davis of Neodesha, KS, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Vintage Park in Neodesha. He was 97. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the United Methodist Church under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. The Reverend Kris Brinlee will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery where military honors will be afforded. Mr. Davis will lie in state Monday, March 16, 2009, from 9 a.m. 8:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. The son of Ward H. and Grace R. Lewis Davis, he was born August 12, 1911, in Independence, KS. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1927. On March 19, 1936, he was united in marriage to Viola Louise Perry in Carthage, MO. She preceded him in death Nov. 1, 2003. He joined the US Navy in 1943 and served as a Quartermaster 2nd Class until his honorable discharge in 1945. Mr. Davis was employed as a pumper at the American Oil Company Refinery in Neodesha for 30 years until his retirement in 1970. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Neodesha where he was a member of the United Methodist Men and the church choir. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Anne Thorp of Louisville, KY; two sons, Ray Davis and his wife Sharon of Salado, TX, and Kenneth E. Davis and his wife Candace of Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Johnson and Mary Logan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Neodesha United Methodist Church.
