Elizabeth Ann (Kounter) Thompson, age 79, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Midland Hospice House, in Topeka, Kansas.

Elizabeth (Liz) was born on October 23, 1936, in Neodesha, Kansas, to Claude and Edith (Harmon) Kounter. She attended Neodesha schools and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1954. While in high school she met the love of her life, Oliver (Ollie) Thompson, and on April 15, 1955, they were married in Neodesha, Kansas. Following their marriage, Liz and Ollie made their home in Coffeyville, Kansas, and to this marriage four sons were born. Liz and Ollie moved back to Neodesha, Kansas in 1974, and were married for nearly 51 years at the time of Ollie's passing in 2006.

Liz worked many jobs during her life, principally in clerical, administrative, purchasing, and bookkeeping positions. She had been employed at Kansas Lumber Company in Coffeyville, Prestige and MEC Companies in Neodesha, and Quality Motors in Independence. Her last employment was with the Montgomery County Treasurer's Office, Auto Tag Department, in Independence, Kansas, from which she retired in 1999.

Liz enjoyed many crafting hobbies such as embroidery, crocheting, knitting, and most of all spending time with her family and attending many school events and activities of her children and grandchildren.

Liz is survived by her sons, Stan and his wife Jody of Lawrence, Kansas, Kenley and his wife Susan of Neodesha, Scott and his wife Sandy of Columbus, Kansas, and Toby and his wife Susan of Topeka, Kansas. Additionally, she is survived by her nine grandchildren: Betha Thummel of Hoxie, Kansas; Jason Thompson of Lawrence, Kansas; Danielle Hall, Zachary Thompson, and Marissa Thompson of Columbus, Kansas; Audrey Thompson of Wichita, Kansas; Kyle Thompson of Lawrence, Kansas; Haley Thompson of Neodesha, Kansas; and Spencer Thompson of Topeka, Kansas. Liz is also survived by eight Great-Grandchildren: Eric, Jon, and Ellie Thummel of Hoxie, Kansas; and Mason, Kadance, Timber, Gunner, and Gauge Hall of Columbus, Kansas. She is also survived by one sister, Glenna Venn of Willow Springs, Missouri.

Liz was preceded in death by her husband Ollie, her parents, and one sister, Nancy Hammond.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the First Christian Church, 702 Wisconsin Street, Neodesha, Kansas. A Visitation will also be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the First Christian Church in Neodesha, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. prior to the beginning of services. Interment will follow at Neodesha City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances are suggested to the Shriners' Childrens' Hospital, in care of the Loran Fawcett Chapel, in Neodesha, Kansas. Condolences may be left for the family at www.loranfawcettfuneralhome.com.
