Elizabeth B. Wilson Elizabeth Belle Wilson of Neodesha, KS, died Thursday, September 23, 2010, in Springfield, MO, She was 84. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Neodesha under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Pastor Maurine Olson will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth will lie in state at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8 a.m.8 p.m. The daughter of Thomas Eugene and Calla Belle Allen Shanahan, she was born May 31, 1926, in Iola, KS. She graduated from Iola High School in 1944 and studied to be a registered nurse through the Cadet Nurse Corps Program at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, OK, receiving her certification in 1947. She later became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and served in the medical field for 47 years. On October 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Ernest B Wilson in Iola, KS. The couple lived in Wichita, KS, Mission, KS, and St. Joseph, MO, before moving to Neodesha in 1962. He preceded her in death in 1985. For over 30 years, Liz served as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at various hospitals in southeast Kansas including the Wilson County Hospital in Neodesha, Mercy Hospital in Independence, St. Margarets Hospital in Fredonia and Katy Hospital in Parsons. During that period, she also served in a temporary capacity for a number of other hospitals in the region. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and PEO. She was also an active member of the Neodesha Arts Association where she served as director of several community dramatical productions. Survivors include two sons, Brian Wilson of Kansas City, MO, and Thomas R. Wilson of Springfield, MO one brother, John Attison Shanahan of Lake Worth, FL two sisters, Nellouise Sherman of Lawrence, KS, and D. Jane Gleason of Iola, KS and one grandchild, Erin Wilson. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Edgar Eugene and Robert Allen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wilson Medical Center Foundation and may be left at the funeral home.
