Erma Jean Sweeney, 94, passed away at Morningstar Care Home in Neodesha, Kansas on Monday June 25, 2018.
Erma Jean Sweeney (Taylor) was born on October 5, 1923 in Neodesha, Kansas to Henry R. Taylor and Verna (Jones) Taylor. Jean was baptized in the Methodist Church at the age of 14. Jean graduated from Neodesha High School in 1941. She then went on to attend the Wichita Business College. Jean married Max E. Sweeney on July 23, 1943. During their 51 years of marriage, Max and Jean welcomed a son, Max E. Sweeney Jr. In 1970, they moved to Garden City, Kansas, then returned to Neodesha in 1983. Jean worked at the Publics Works Department in Neodesha, she was the secretary to the Superintendent of Public Schools in Neodesha, and the secretary to the Principal of Jenny Wilson Elementary School in Garden City. Jean was very active in the community as Life member of the VFW Auxiliary, member of the Birthday Club of Neodesha, and worked with and help organize the Avenue of Flags in Neodesha.
Jean is preceded in death by her dear husband, Max E. Sweeney Sr., parents, Henry E. and Verna (Jones) Taylor, brother, Hugh R. Taylor and sister, Thestine (Taylor) Wilkes.
Jean's memory will live on through her son, Max E. Sweeney Jr. and wife Rita of Wichita,KS, grandsons, Brett Sweeney, wife Brittany of Wichita, KS, and Jeffery Sweeney, of Kansas City, MO.
Services will be held at Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha, Kansas on Wednesday, June 27th at 10:00 AM, with interment following at Neodesha City Cemetery. The family has asked that any memorials be left to Kindred Hospice in Jean's name and may be left at Loran Fawcett Chapel.
