Frances Elaine Coltrain

February 20, 1951 — July 25, 2025

Abilene, Kansas

Francis Elaine Coltrain, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, in Abilene, Kansas, at the age of 74. She was born on February 20, 1951, in Neodesha, Kansas, to Lewis and Wilma Sannes.

Elaine married her high school sweetheart, David Coltrain, on December 27, 1970, and together they made Neodesha their home for forty years. While Elaine always considered Neodesha “home,” she followed David wherever his job took them. Throughout Elaine’s adult life, she held various jobs outside the home.

A devoted follower of Christ, Elaine dedicated her life to her faith and lived with a heart full of love and kindness. Wherever she lived and she and David attended church, Elaine helped with children’s ministry. She loved teaching of God’s love while singing Bible choruses.

Her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to her family were the core of her existence. As a devoted wife and loving mother, she found joy in nurturing and guiding those she loved, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. In her free time, she enjoyed cross stitching and needlepoint. She read many books about World War II history, mass produced crocheted potholders and ensured every family gathering had delicious desserts.

Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lewis and Wilma Sannes. Her legacy of love lives on through her surviving family, including her dedicated husband, David Coltrain; sister Wilma Lou Denney; children Stephanie (Derrek) Marteney, Annie (Jason) Lahr, and Josh (Tabetha) Coltrain. Her precious grandchildren: Isaiah (Becca) Lahr, Tyler (Michayla) Marteney, Eli Lahr, Bethany (Samuel) Baumer, Samantha Marteney, Gracie Coltrain, Stormy Marteney, Dakota Marteney, Jonathan Coltrain, Emma Coltrain, Shaun Coltrain, Lydia Lahr, and Luke Coltrain, and great-grandchildren: Gayle, Maddox, Eben, Henry, and Quinton
