Frank M. Greer Frank M. Greer of Neodesha, KS, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the home of his nephew and niece, Melvin and Jean Hare. He was 86. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Rev. Leslie Griffith will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery. Friends may call to register Thursday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The son of Alfred and Florence Sanderson Greer, he was born January 28, 1923, at Savonburg, KS. He later moved to Neodesha with his family where he received his early education. He later received his GED and walked across the stage to receive his diploma with the Neodesha High School Class of 2000. Mr. Greer served with the US Army Air Corps during WWII in the European Theater. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroic acts performed on a bombing run over Germany. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. On October 19, 1944, he was united in marriage to Helen Ruth Patchin in Neodesha. She preceded him in death in 2006. He was employed by M-E-C Company in Neodesha for 29 years, retiring in 1987 as a maintenance foreman. He was a member of the First Church of God, a charter and life member of VFW Post 5962, the Disabled Veterans of America, and Harmony Lodge 94 A.F. A.M. Frank was an avid gardener, fisherman and domino player. Survivors include one granddaughter, Mondi Sterling of Mt. Wolf, PA; one sister, Mary Casey of Dallas, TX; one daughter-in-law, Carol Greer of Tulsa, OK; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Johnnie Lee Greer; six brothers, Lowell, Donald, John, Darrel and Glenn, and Norman; two sisters, Doris Carver and Norma Mayer; one grandson, Christopher Greer; and one nephew, Corky Padley. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of God and may be left at the funeral home.
