Gene Bailey

Gene M. Bailey passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 24, 2017, surrounded by family. He fought cancer for the last year. His funeral service will be Thursday, June 1, 2:00 p.m. at the Neodesha United Methodist Church, 802 Indiana Street, Neodesha, under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 6-8 o'clock at the funeral home, 704 Indiana Street, Neodesha.
Gene was born January 23, 1942, to Geraldine (Mason) and Albian W. Bailey in Olney, Illinois. He lived most of his life in Neodesha, Kansas, a town he loved. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1960, enrolled at KU and pledged Sigma Nu Fraternity. After a year, he left KU and lived in New York City for six months. He then moved back to Lawrence and bought The Stables, a popular bar and hangout close to the KU campus. He later sold it and went to Kansas State College of Pittsburg and graduated with an English Degree in 1968.
In 1972 Gene married Linda Lindley in Halls, Tennessee. They made their home in Neodesha. They divorced in 1983. In 1993 he married Pattie (Deer) Wallace on Little Bear's Mound.
He is survived by wife, Pattie of the home; sister Polly (Floyd) Reichardt of Augusta, KS; brothers Bud (LaDonna) Bailey of Neodesha, KS and Lane (Kay) Bailey of Plattsmouth, NE; daughters Lindley Anderson of Austin, TX and Gerimee Bailey of Wilson, NC; stepsons Sean (Lorri) Wallace and Heath (Jill) Wallace of Neodesha, KS; stepdaughter Heather (Kendall) Pierce of Altoona, KS; grandchildren Lexie & Eli Anderson, James Burt, Josh Burt, Jake Burt, John Wallace, Kassandra Duff, Wyatt Wallace, Brett Dick-Wolfe, Montie Wallace, Nait (Savannah) Leedy, Quoi Leedy, River Raida, Anna Pierce, Kendall Pierce, Jr., and great-grandchild, Killian Burt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Jimmee Bailey.
