HARDIN NEAL MURRELL Hardin Neal Murrell of Neodesha, Kansas, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was 63. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Earlton Cemetery in Earlton, Kansas, under the direction of Penwell Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon. The son of William Grant and Eva Mae Brunell Murrell, he was born July 12, 1941, in West Plains, Missouri. He attended Neosho Valley Rural School, and schools at Earlton and Chanute. He later received an Associate of Arts degree from Independence Community College. As a teenager, he worked as a farm hand for Mr. and Mrs. Frank G. Stich and, briefly, at the wax plant in Chanute, Kansas. He married Phyllis Stirewalt and they were later
orced. She precedes him in death. On November 25, 1966, he was united in marriage to Peggy Rinehart in Vinita, Oklahoma. She survives at the home. Mr. Murrell served in the US Army in the 36th Infantry from 1964 to 1966, serving for a time in Germany. He then served in the US Army Reserve until 1969. He and his wife, Peggy, moved to Neodesha in 1966 where he was employed at the M-E-C Company. He presently was employed there as a lead man. Mr. Murrell enjoyed fishing and hunting and taught a local hunters safety course for several years. He also spent many years coaching little league and the girls softball fast pitch traveling team of Neodesha. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mae Murrell of rural Chanute, KS; one son, Farin Murrell of Coffeyville, KS; one daughter, Dawn Murrell of Neodesha, KS; one brother, Richard Murrell of Chanute, KS; one sister, Rita Harp of Seguin, TX; and one grandson. He is also preceded in death by his father. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.
