Howard Dobkins

Howard Eugene Dobkins, age 83, of Neodesha, Kansas died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at his home in rural Neodesha, Kansas. Howard was born November 7, 1919 to Leonard Simpson and Minerva J. Fletcher Dobkins in Winfield, Kansas. He grew up in Neodesha, Kansas and attended school in Neodesha. Howard enlisted in the United States Army, on February 22, 1942 and served in the 37 Division, 129 Infantry during World War II. He was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged on October 23, 1945. Howard married Frances Ogden Vordebruegge on March 6, 1946 and she preceded him in death December 11, 1987. Howard worked for MEC in Neodesha, Kansas. He was a life member of the VFW Post 5962 and the Eagles. Survivors include his stepson Bill Vordebruegge of Neodesha, Kansas; one brother Homer Dobkins of Columbus, Kansas; four sisters Dorothy Bradway of Wichita, Kansas; Maxine Folmer of Fort Collins, Colorado; Ellen Steeves of Owasso, Oklahoma; Mildred Lenner of Sun City, California and special friend Marie Hase of Neodesha, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances; and four brothers Roy, Leonard, Ed, and Walter Dobkins and one step son Leonard Vordebruegge. Graveside Services will be held on at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 at the Buffalo Cemetery with Dave Cheshier officiating under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. Friends may sign the register book from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2003 at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home.
