JAMES L. BENTLEY James L. Bentley, 73, of Altoona, Kansas passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 05, 2005. Visitation hours for Mr. Bentley will be from noon to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 06, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel, Neodesha, Kansas. Funeral services for James L. Bentley will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 07, 2005 at the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene, 812 N. 7th, Neodesha, Kansas with Reverend Dale Coble officiating. Burial will follow at the High Prairie Cemetery. Military honors to be provided by VFW Post 5962, Neodesha and VFW Post 3018, Fredonia. James was born in White Deer, Texas on May 08, 1932 to Leo and Ellen Payne Bentley. He was a graduate of Benedict High School in 1951. He was a member of the Kansas Army National Guard and served in the Korean Conflict when his unit was activated. He was a lifelong resident of Wilson County and worked for the Fredonia Co-op, ADM, Benedict Rock Crusher, School District 387, and as Wilson County Noxious Weed Supervisor while also being a local business owner of the Bentley39;s Garment Care Center in Neodesha. He also founded and led the local metal detector club as a hobby. In August of 1953, he married Donna Vining at the High Prairie Methodist Church and she survives at their home. Survivors in addition to his wife include, one son, Bruce Bentley of Neodesha, Kansas; two daughters, Susan Reeves of Neodesha, Kansas and Janet Bentley of Lindale, Texas; one sister, Joyce Bentley of Erie, Kansas; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family has suggested memorial contributions to either the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
