J. D. Clegg James David J.D. Clegg of Neodesha, KS, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at the Wilson Medical Center Reece Campus. He was 89. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at the Neodesha United Methodist Church under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery. Friends may view and register at the funeral home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m.5 p.m. The son of Milton and May Vandaveer Clegg, he was born August 14, 1921, in Neodesha, KS. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Navy the following December and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged in April of 1946 as a Seaman First Class. On March 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marie Cranor at the United Methodist Church in Neodesha. She survives at the home. During his working career, J.D. was employed by J.R. Vandaveer and Son Pipeline, the Standard Oil Company and Berwind Railway Service Company. He retired from Berwind in 1986. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time on his farm with his best friend, Marie, raising cattle and tinkering. He was a founding member of Rural Water District 6 and served on its board of directors for many years. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 5962, Harmony Lodge 94 A.F. amp A.M. and the United Methodist Church. J.D. spent his entire life in Neodesha and was respected by all that knew him. He was known as being a kind, honest man with a curious mind and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Hazel Clegg Stevenin of Parsons, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents two brothers, Donald and Joe Clegg and two sisters, Ruth Clegg and Francis Clegg Martin. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church or W.A. Rankin Memorial Library.
