John Clifton Jr.

John A. Clifton, Jr, life long resident of Neodesha, died Sunday, November 21 at Golden Living Nursing Center in Pittsburg, KS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at the First Christian Church of Neodesha under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Reverend Dave Cheshier of Christ Church, Neodesha will officiate. Friends may call to register at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and family will receive friends on Wednesday at the First Christian Church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Neodesha Cemetery with Military Honors from Ft. Riley U.S. Army Detachment Unit. The son of John A. Clifton Sr. and Clovia Ragsdale Clifton, he was born November 09, 1918 in Wilson County, Rural Neodesha, Kansas. He attended school through the 8th grade and later received his GED. John enlisted in the United States ArmyAir Force in 1942, serving his country during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then went to work at ADM, and then M.E.C. and later owned amp operated Clifton Welding all in Neodesha. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and First Christian Church Disciples of Christ Neodesha, Kansas. He married Ellen L. Horner on July 07, 1946 in Joplin, Missouri and she preceded him in death on January 01, 1998. Survivors include his a son, Ron Clifton of Hutchison, Kansas a daughter, Judyth Clifton of Neodesha, KS grandchildren, David J. Clifton of Bonner Springs, KS and Monica M. Clifton of Olathe, KS two brothers Bill Clifton of Cherryvale, KS and Ray Bird of Leavenworth, KS three sisters, Edna McDowell of Cherryvale, KS, Fredia Hall of Kansas City, MO, and Tina Williams of Daytona, FL. He is also preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers. Memorial Remembrances have been suggested to Harry Hynes Hospice or Neodesha Avenue of Flags and donations may be left at the funeral home.
