Julia Agosto went home to be with her lord on June 5th, 2026. Julia "Judy" May (Slaten)  Agosto was born March 18, 1934 at Rock, Kansas to William Earl and Rose (Franks) Slaten. Judy and her sister Theda "Crys" Chris moved many times with their father in Colorado and Arizona. After the death of her father in Phoenix, their step mother, Sally Bryson-Slayten took the sisters to live in Independence, Kansas with their aunt and uncle Cecil and Mary Whitlow. She met the love of her life Charles Agosto at high school. They married in 1951 at Lenaph, Oklahoma. They were married 46 years before cancer shortened his life. Preceding Judy in death were her parents, 2 sisters, Maxine Mize and Theda "Crys" Chris Pearson, 1 brother Robert Haines, an infant son Ron Agosto, an infant grandson and great-granddaughter, and an infant brother William Earl Jr.

Surviving children are Kathryn (Don Songer) of Altoona, KS; Carolyn (f. Terry Skinner), Merriam, KS; Don (Rhonda Klingenburg), Oolagah, OK; Cheryle (f. Steve Lamendola and d. Robert Kammerer), Neodesha, Ks, and son John of Independence, KS. Twelve Grandchildren: Micah, Angela (White) and Jessica Songer; Charles "Chuck", David and Erin Skinner; Haley (Schofield), Daniel  and Melisa (Woolf) Agosto; Joseph, Michael Lamendola and Kacy Kammerer, Twenty nine great-grandchildren and fourteen  great-great grandchildren.

Judy loved to sew and made many quilts, and crocheted baby and lap blankets. She was skilled in dress making and embroidery. Living in the country she canned vegetable and fruits and taught her children to cook. Judy was a member of the Neodesha Music Club and sang in the Marcato's led by Mrs. Ruth Gausman. She also sang in her church choir and sang solo's. Being a strong spiritual leader in her family she made sure her children were with her in church on Sunday's. In 1978, she graduated with her daughter Carolyn from Neosho County Community College Practical Nurse Program. Judy worked 25 years caring for the elderly. She also served as Site Manager for Meals on Wheels for 13 years. Judy was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and The Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 16th at 2:00pm at the Grace Baptist Church with internment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas.
