L. Marie Lawrence Lulu Marie Lawrence of Neodesha, Kansas, died Sunday, November 27, 2005, at the Golden Keys Nursing Home. She was 85. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2005, at the United Methodist Church under the direction of Penwell Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Rev. Kris Brinlee will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Resthaven in Wichita, Kansas. The daughter of Charles W. and Estella Belle Rouse Haidsiak, she was born April 22, 1920, in Nelson, Nebraska. She attended school at Highland Country School near Nelson where she graduated. On July 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to James Edward Lawrence in Wichita, KS. They resided in Wichita for a number of years where she managed and owned numerous restaurants. She also managed Hinkles Tea Room in Wichita. She later worked as the head receptionist for Dr. Harry Hidaka. At the age of 49, she graduated from the Wichita Vocational-Technical School practical nursing program as a licensed practical nurse. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Masonic Home in Wichita until her retirement. Upon retirement, she and her husband retired to Lady Lake, Florida. He preceded her in death there. She was a member of the Westside Presbyterian Church in Wichita. Mrs. Lawrence moved to Neodesha in 1999 and was the first tenant at the new Heritage Estates. She later lived at The Gran Villas before before moving to the Golden Keys Nursing Home. Survivors include a son, James L. Jackson and daughter-in-law Sharon of Neodesha; a stepdaughter, Judy Shoffner and son-in-law Bill of Wichita; one sister, Ruth Borcherding of Schaller, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
