Lawrence Green

Lawrence Edward Green Lawrence Green, born November 4, 1924, died Monday, June 16, 2008, at the Golden Keys Nursing Home in Neodesha, KS. Lawrence, or Ed, as he was known, was the youngest of four children born to Earl and Iva Mae Green of Fredonia, KS. Survivors include his sister Ruth Mather of Bartlesville, OK; daughter Marietta Smith of Louisville, CO; daughter Rae Lynn Caudle of Thornton, CO; and five grandchildren. Mr. Green was preceded in death by two brothers, Max Greene and Howard Greene. Earl and Iva Mae Green moved the family from Fredonia, KS to Western Colorado in 1939, leaving behind the rolling hills, rich farmland and winding rivers that Lawrence loved as a child. Within a few years, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Japan during World War II. Following his military service, Ed became skilled in mechanics and spent three decades overseeing the mechanical operations of manufacturing plants in several U.S. cities. Eds career as a machinist was interrupted briefly during the 1950s while he served as pastor of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Oklahoma City. As pastor, Eds zeal and concern for others resulted in rapid church growth and a strong ministry to youth. Ultimately, however, Ed resumed his career as a machinist, which he pursued into the 1970s. Eds memories of country life and love of wide open spaces eventually drew him into the trucking industry. Becoming familiar with every major U.S. highway during the 1980s, Ed could give directions to virtually any destination without the aid of a map. Finally, having achieved his dreams of owning and operating a big rig, Ed retired to the place he loved best: his hometown of Fredonia, KS. Ed Green will be remembered for his skills as a hunter and fisherman, competence as a machinist and unique ability to navigate the highways and byways of his beloved country. He will be missed for his sense of humor and love for family. A memorial service honoring the life of Lawrence Green will take place on June 29, 2008 in Aurora, CO. Friends and family are invited to attend.
