LELAND W. REEDY AGE 90 PASSED AWAY ON DECEMBER 1ST, 2018 AT HIS HOME IN NEODESHA, KS SURROUNDED BY HIS LOVING FAMILY.
LELAND WAS BORN OCTOBER 16TH, 1928 TO WAYNE AND IVA (BICKHAM) REEDY.
HE GRADUATED FROM NEODESHA HIGH SCHOOL IN 1947.
HE SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY AS A SERGEANT FROM NOVEMBER 1950 TO DECEMBER 1956. WHILE SERVING HE WAS A CARTOGRAPHER FOR THE KOREAN WAR.
LELAND MARRIED THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE LADONNA LEE BURLINGAME ON MAY 26, 1954 AT THE FIRST ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH IN PARSONS, KS. THEY MADE THEIR HOME IN NEODESHA, KS. IN 1959 THEY WELCOMED THEIR DAUGHTER KIMBERLY. HE WORKED AS A BODY AND FENDER RESTORER FOR OTIS SMITH AUTO BODY.
LELAND SERVED FOR A SHORT TIME AS A POLICE OFFICER IN 1954 AND ALSO A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER. HE BECAME A FULL TIME FIREFIGHTER IN OCTOBER OF 1954, THEN IN MAY 1966 HE BECAME THE ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF, ON SEPTEMBER 1ST, 1969 HE WAS PROMOTED TO FIRE CHIEF. WHILE BEING A FIRE CHIEF HE HELPED PROMOTE THE 911 SYSTEM WHICH WAS FIRST USED ON FEBRUARY 1ST, 1972 ON THE AEROSOL EXPLOSION. HE BECAME A EMT AND AMBULANCE DIRECTOR IN 1980, UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT ON APRIL 14, 1989. HE WAS ALSO AN ORIGINAL MEMBER OF THE SOUTHEAST KANSAS FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION.
LELAND BECAME A MEMBER OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 1962.
HE WAS A MEMBER OF HARMONY LODGE #94 A.F & A.M IN NEODESHA, KS, IN 1961 LELAND WAS INITIATED AND PASSED IN DECEMBER 1961, RAISED IN 1962, WORSHIPFUL MASTER IN 1972, DISTRICT DEPUTY IN 1978, PAST MASTER IN 1981. HE COACHED NUMEROUS MEMBERS OF THE LODGE.
HIS PASSIONS WAS TARGET PRACTICING, GUN COLLECTING, AMMO RELOADING, AND BEING A MEMBER OF THE NRA. HE RECEIVED HIS CONCEALED TO CARRY IN 2008. HIS OTHER HOBBIES WAS WOODWORKING, DRAWING, WORD SEARCHES, GARDENING, YARDWORK, FISHING, HUNTING, AND CAMPING.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS BELOVED WIFE LADONNA OF THE HOME, HIS DAUGHTER KIMBERLY STONE OF NEODESHA; GRANDDAUGHTER WENDY STONE, GRANDSON DUSTIN STONE, BOTH OF NEODESHA. GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER BRITTANIE STONE OF CHANUTE AND GREAT GRANDSON DONALD RHODES II OF ERIE.
HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS, SIBLINGS, AND A GREAT GREAT GRANDSON BRANDEN LEE RHODES.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE WILL BE HELD DECEMBER 11TH 2018, AT 2:00 PM, AT THE NEODESHA FIRE DEPARTMENT. A VISITATION WILL BE AT 1:00PM BEFORE SERVICES AT THE NEODESHA FIRE DEPARTMENT. MEMORIALS MAY BE LEFT IN LELAND'S NAME TO THE NEODESHA FIRE FIGHTERS EQUIPMENT FUND AND CAN BE LEFT AT LORAN FAWCETT CHAPEL.
