Leroy Dean Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in Neodesha, Kansas, the town where his story began and where he chose to spend his final years.
Born on August 18, 1946, in rural Neodesha, Dean was the second of ten children born to Harold Eugene Johnson and Hazel Delcinia Quigley.
Dean graduated from Neodesha High School on May 26, 1965. That fall, he enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving aboard the USS Pawcatuck until September 1968.
Professionally, Dean was known for his dedication and leadership. He worked at Cobalt Boats for 19 years, serving as the supervisor of customer service, repair, and quality control. His attention to detail and care for customers left a lasting impact.
Dean spent 21 years living in Haleyville, Alabama, before returning to Neodesha, where he built his home and lived out his remaining years. He was a devoted University of Alabama fan, an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. A proud member of Twin River Coon Hunting Association, Dean’s dog Rex earned the title of UKC Night Champion.
He enjoyed golfing with his brother-in-law and close friend, Butch McDonald.
Dean married Linda McDonald, his best friend and love of his life. For 42 years they built a life full of love and laughter.
He is survived by his wife Linda, children: Michaela (Jim) Gretencord, Leslie (Mark) Reams, Roy Jarvais Jr., Dana Johnson, Tabatha Jarvais, and Shelly Johnson, 15 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, siblings Linda, Juanita, Debbie, Brenda, and Larry.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Patricia, Mike, Ray, and Tina. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and deep love for his family, his country, and the simple joys of life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
