Lewis L. Laverty, 75 a resident of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 02, 2010, at Neodesha City Cemetery under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Pastor Dee Williamston, reverend of the First United Methodist Church of Independence will officiate. Friends may call to register on Sunday, August 01, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Loran Fawcett Chapel. Lewis Larry Laverty was born December 05, 1934 to Lewis H. Laverty amp Velma Fawcett Laverty in Neodesha, Kansas. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1955. He retired from Kraft Foods in 1990 and moved to Fredonia, Kansas. Lewis married Zelpha McClaren on December 31, 1953 in Neodesha and she preceded him in death on January 04, 1999. He then married Elizabeth Corky Clanton on June 22, 2002. She survives at the home. Survivors include one son Steve Lewis Laverty and two daughters Debbie Dwiggins and Lorrie Maxwell all of which reside in Fredonia two grandsons Austin Laverty, Kansas City and Jay Dee Laverty, Fredonia three granddaughters Blaine Estes and Lacey Spohn of Fredonia and Samantha Clanton of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and five greatgrandchildren. Lewis was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was on the Administration Board and the Adult Council. He was also a member of Masters Fortitude Lodge. Memorial Contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Independence and may be left at the funeral home.
