Lynn Douglas Marten, 74, of Neodesha, Kansas. passed away Wednesday December 22,2021, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Lynn was born in Wamego, KS, on May 11,1947 the son of William Henry and Gladys P (Bowman) Marten. He attended the Louisville Kansas grade school and graduated from Wamego High School in 1965. Lynn was an MP in the Army during the Vietnam War. He served in Washington DC after the shooting of Martin Luther King Jr. Lynn was very active in the Masonic Lodge and was a Member of Harmony Lodge #94 AF&AM of Neodesha, KS. and Greenwood Lodge # 163 of Fall River, KS. Lynn held all the offices of the Masonic lodge except for the officer of the Jr. Warden.
On June 12, 1970, Lynn married Janice in Fredonia, Kansas. They made their home in Neodesha, Kansas. Lynn loved woodworking. He loved making things for Janice for the yard. When Janice saw something she wanted Lynn would tell her, “I can make that” and he did. Lynn loved to go fishing and play golf with all of his good friends. Lynn D Marten Worked for the Neodesha Fire Department beginning on March 24th,1972, in 1976 Lynn was promoted to assistant fire chief where he served until October, 23,1987 . Lynn worked for MEC Company from 1987 to 1991, in 1991 Lynn returned to work for the City of Neodesha Electric Department as a lineman and worked until his retirement in 2009.
Lynn is survived by three children; Rick Marten of Neodesha, Kansas, Brandie Hoagland and husband Reed of Pittsburg, Kansas and Chad Marten and wife Amy of Bentonville, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Josh Marten, Erikka Helton, Emma Marten, Isaac Marten, Ethan Hoagland, Madelyn Marten and Christopher Hoagland; two great grandchildren Payton Houdashelt and Raylee Helton.
Lynn is preceded in death by his wife and soul mate Janice Kay, parents William Henry and Gladys P Marten, sister Alice Kay Marten, and brother Lawrence Red Marten.
Graveside funeral services with Masonic Rites and full Military Honors will be held Thursday, December 30,2021 at 2:00PM at the Neodesha Cemetery in Neodesha, Kansas.
