MARGIE E. PORTER Margie Ellen Porter of Neodesha, Kansas, died Thursday evening, April 7, 2005, at the Wilson County Hospital. She was 72. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Penwell Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Rev. Dave Cheshier will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home to register on Monday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon. The daughter of Theodore R. and Marrin Stansbury Farrin, she was born February 3, 1933, at Souix City, Iowa. She graduated from East High School in Souix City in 1950. Mrs. Porter joined the US Army on March 8, 1952, and served as a clerk-typist until her discharge as a private 1st class on July 22, 1952. She was united in marriage to Edward C. DuBois in San Francisco, California. They were later
orced. She married Robert F. Porter on July 25, 1969, in Maryland. He survives at the home. Mrs. Porter has been a resident of the Neodesha area for 36 years. During that time, she was clerk-operator for the Union Pacific Railroad for 15 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Neodesha Bowling Association. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Debi Reedy and Miki Hurst, both of Neodesha, Carolyn Bowman of Michigan, and Lucy Wooten of Illinois; one sister, Lorraine Columbus of Iowa; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wayne Farrin; and two sisters, Marilyn Gruis and Jean Farrin. Memorial contributions may be made to either the W. A. Rankin Memorial Library or the Knickerbocker Garden at the W.A. Rankin Memorial Library and may be left at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at www.penwellgabel.com.
