Marion Eugene Hatcher Marion Eugene Gene Hatcher, of Thayer, KS, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at his home. He was 82. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Grace Baptist Church in Neodesha under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Pastor Jim Logan will officiate. Interment will be in Thayer Cemetery. Friends may call to view Friday from 9 a.m.5 p.m. and on Sunday from 15 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 24 p.m. The son of W.H and Ardell Stevens Hatcher, he was born May 11, 1927, in Bibb County, AL, where he received his education. Mr. Hatcher was a termite inspector and eradicator for Martin Termite in San Diego, CA, for a number of years. While there, he met Marian Janet Thielenhaus. The two were united in marriage on Oct. 18, 1980, in Yuma, AZ. Gene and Janet moved to Fredonia, KS, in 1982. He was employed at Contractors Engineers in Buffville as a carpenter until he retired in 1992. The couple moved to Thayer in 1997 where Mrs. Hatcher survives. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Neodesha. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 12 children: Betty Ward of Ramona, CA, Jeannie Whitcomb of Thayer, KS, Lois Riley of El Cajon, CA, Harvey Hatcher of Neodesha, KS, Keith Whitcomb of Thayer, KS, Jesse Whitcomb of Albuquerque, NM, Lydia Key of Neodesha, KS, Rose Mary Barton of Longview, WA, Benjamin Whitcomb of Chanute, KS, Daniel Whitcomb of Atchison, KS, Kathleen Jackson of Chanute, KS, and Debbi Walter of Thayer, KS one brother, Don Hatcher of Montevallo, AL one sister, Mae Schrader of Cincinnati, OH and 56 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents two stepdaughters, Lois and Dorthy four brothers, Arthur, Lester, C.S. and Jimmy and two sisters, Kathryn and Era Mae. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
