Max M. Allen Max Meredith Allen of Neodesha, KS, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Wilson County Hospital. He was 87. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Neodesha, under the direction of Penwell-Gable Loran Fawcett Chapel. Cremation will take place following the service and a private interment will be held at a later date in the Neodesha Cemetery. The Reverend Kris Brinlee will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 10, 2008, at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. The son of Herbert Meredith and Clara Holtzgrafe Allen, he was born March 20, 1920, in Haskell, OK. He was united in marriage to Gayle Killion on Oct.7, 1951, in Neodesha. She preceded him in death Feb. 17, 2004. Max lived all his life in Neodesha and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1938. He entered the US Army on Jan. 2, 1943 and served until Oct. 18, 1945. He was employed by the Santa Fe Transportation Company for 11 years and Independent Manufacturing Company IMCO for nine years. He also farmed and ranched on his land east of Neodesha for a number of years. He was a member of the Neodesha United Methodist Church. Max thoroughly enjoyed his nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He spent many hours with them swimming, fishing, camping, and playing games. His love of sports was evident as he watched his grandchildren participate in various sports over the years. He followed many colligate and professional teams, with KU basketball being one of his favorites. Max stayed young by working out at Get Fit, doing jigsaw puzzles at the Senior Center, and playing dominoes with friends at the Gran Villa. Max is survived by a son, David Allen and his wife Theresa of Derby, KS; three daughters, Jeanne Fiscus and her husband Ronnie of Mound Valley, KS, Nancy Estes and her husband Mike of Independence, KS, and Charlene Hughes and her husband Eric of Olathe, KS, two brothers, Edgar Allen of Ogden, UT and Joe Allen of Brenham, TX. The grandchildren include Tony Allen and his wife Mandy, Jenny Perryman and her husband Bill, Melinda Taylor and her husband Bill, Joshua Fiscus and his wife Jessica, Roxanne Estes, Tami Schepmann and her husband Trent, Keith Estes and his wife Becky, Ashley Hughes and her fianc Tom Eisenhauer, and Abby Hughes. Surviving great-grandchildren include Meredith Taylor, Tristan Taylor, Gavriela Perryman, Sydney Allen, Mia Perryman, Chloe Gayle Rose Estes, Rylan Allen, and Jaya Fiscus. In addition to his wife, Max is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Allen.
