Max Loflin

Max Douglas (Doug) Loflin, 72, surrendered his battle with cancer, passing away at his home in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, on October 4, 2022. Family gathered at the home to say goodbye and tell him how loved he will always be. Doug was born November 27, 1949, in Neodesha, Kansas, to Max Dudley Loflin and Wilma Jean (Smalley) Loflin. He grew up there and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1967. He later obtained his Associate’s degree from Independence Community College. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Neodesha, Kansas. Following his father’s path, Doug joined the United States Air Force where he served his country from 1969 to 1973. While in Vietnam in 1970, he was an air traffic controller assigned to the Project Delta Special Forces unit. His fellow soldiers in that project nicknamed him “Jeep.” After his time in Vietnam, Doug was stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas. Upon discharge from the U.S. Air Force, he returned to Neodesha where he was employed by MEC Company. He later went to work for Lafarge Corporation in Fredonia, Kansas, as a control room operator, retiring in 2011.In 1968, Doug was united in marriage with Nancy Marie Reynolds at the United Methodist Church in Neodesha, Kansas. They were blessed with three daughters - Jana, Cynthia, and Amanda. After retirement, Doug and Nancy moved from Neodesha to Excelsior Springs, Missouri, to be closer to family. Doug learned the game of poker at the age of seven, watching his family play the game with relatives and friends. He carried the love of that game throughout his life, enjoying it and all the camaraderie with local groups around Neodesha. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed home remodeling projects, and could figure out how to fix almost everything. A loving son, brother, husband, father, and Papa, Doug leaves behind many hearts full of memories and home projects built with love for his family. Those left to cherish his memory arehis wife, Nancy, of the home, his daughters Jana Loflin and Amanda Loflin and her husband, Christopher Harper, all of Kansas City, Missouri, Cynthia Loflin of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, three grandchildren - Gavan Alexander Berg, Osa Marie Harper, and Marguerite (Maggie) Jean Harper. He is survived by his sister, Sandra Kay Nix (Barry), of Arlington, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jenny Rae Loflin. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 15, 2022, from 12 noon-2:00 p.m. at the family farm east of Neodesha, Kansas (21285 275 Road). We welcome all whose lives Doug touched over the course of his life. A private family graveside service with military rites will be held at3:00 p.m. at the Neodesha Cemetery under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the William A. Rankin Library or the Independence, Kansas AWOL Humane Society, Independence, Kansas.
