Max D. Loflin, 82 of Neodesha, died today June 1, 2007 at the Wilson County Hospital in Neodesha. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday , June 4, 2007, at the Christ Church in Neodesha with the Reverend Dave Cheshier, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Neodesha City Cemetery. Friend may call at the Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday with the family receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The family has suggested memorial remembrances to the W. A. Rankin Library or the Wilson County Hospital Foundation and remembrances will be received at the funeral home. Max Dudley Loflin was born July 11, 1924 in Thermal, California, the son of William Roe Loflin and Ruth Ilene Delaney Loflin. The family moved to the rural Fredonia area when Mr. Loflin was a young child. He attended Fredonia schools, graduating from Fredonia High School in 1943. He entered the United States Air Force on November 11, 1943. He served as a tail gunner on B-24 Bombers and flew 32 missions over Germany. He was discharged October 23, 1945. He was united in marriage to Wilma Jean Smalley on February 3, 1946 at Fredonia, Kansas. The couple moved to Neodesha in 1951 and he was employed by the Standard Oil Refinery until its closing in 1970. He remained in rural Neodesha working for Gudde Farms and raised Limmousin cattle until ill health forced his retirement in 1946. He worked part-time at the Norman 1 Museum after his retirment. Survivors include: his wife, Jean, of the home; one son, Doug Loflin of Neodesha; a daughter, Sandra K. Kilpatrick of Ft. Worth, Texas, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; a brother, James Roe Loflin of Halstead, Kansas; and two sisters, Catherine Lewis of Wichita, Kansas and Avonell Schweda of Fredonia, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter , Jenny Rae Loflin and a grand daughter, Jenny Rae Loflin, one brother and one sister.
