Neodesha, Kansas

Mecia W. Simms passed away peacefully at Morningstar care Homes surrounded by family and friends on Friday September 5, 2025, at 3:30 PM. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., at Loran Fawcett Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2025, at Neodesha United Methodist Church.

Mecia was born Oct. 29, 1948, to Homer and Dorothy Caskey. She had loving and happy childhood growing up in Neodesha with friends and family. She attended the Neodesha First United Methodist Church with her parents.

She was a 1966 graduate of Neodesha High School, where she performed with The Top Hatters, was a member of Future Homemakers of America, and stage managed many school plays. She found her love for fashion and design while working at Buela’s ladies’ fashion on Main Street. Mecia then went on to attend Independence Community College studying art to go along with her design skills.

While attending Independence Community College she met her husband David Simms, and they were married, August 3, 1969, prior to David shipping off to the Navy. They spent the early years of their marriage in Long Beach, California. Mecia had several talents but eventually took a job in floral design.

After moving to Wichita, Kansas, Mecia, and David started a family. She devoted her life to helping others as member of Chi Epsilon, a chapter of Sigma alpha, a women’s philanthropy organization. She found joy in being a loving wife and mother. In 2005 Mecia returned to Neodasha to live out the remainer of her life. She is survived by her husband David, daughter Anya, her three children, her brother Curtis Caskey and wife Marilyn, and their many children and grandchildren.

If you would like to honor Mecia, Memorial contributions may be made to The First United Methodist Church of Neodesha or The American Alzheimer’s Association.
