Montie R. Wallace Montie Raymond Wallace of Neodesha, Kansas, died Tuesday evening, March 20, 2007, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka, KS. He was 66. At the request of the family, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2007, in the Fredonia Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Posts 5962 and 3018. The son of Montie R. and Maxine Wyckoff Wallace, he was born January 18, 1941, in Edinburg, TX. He moved to Neodesha in 1958 and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1959. He set the Neodesha High School high jump record of 62 in 1959 which stood for over thirty years. He joined the US Navy in 1961 and served for four years. While in the service he was stationed in San Diego, CA, serving two tours overseas. He was united in marriage to Patricia Deer on April 3, 1962. They were later
orced After serving in the navy, he returned to Neodesha to farm with his father-in-law, John Deer. In 1977 he assumed ownership of the farming operation which became known as Wallace Farms. In 1987, he sold the farming operation and started Wallace Construction. He was a member and past president of the Neodesha Metro Club, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Neodesha. As a member of the Metro Club, he was extensively involved with the annual Neodesha Easter Egg Hunt for many years. Survivors include two sons, M. Sean Wallace and wife Lorri and M. Heath Wallace and wife Mimi, both of Neodesha; one daughter, Heather M. Leedy of Neodesha; one sister, Lucine Reed of Fredonia; one half-sister, Debbie Wallace of Linn, MO; eight grandchildren; and his life partner, Ruth Hancock of Neodesha and daughter, Lori Hancock of Arma, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and an infant son. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
