Pansy loved going to school and always wanted to be a teacher.  Following the end of World War II, there was a Teacher shortage due to the fact that many were in the Military or worked in factories.  Pansy graduated from Labette county community high school in 1946.  She enrolled in classes and passed her teaching test.  In September 1946, at the age of 18,her dream of being a school teacher became a reality.   She became an elementary teacher in a one-room country school called Dickerman located south and east of Altamont about 10 miles.
Within a short period of time, she was offered a position at North Lawn Elementary school in Neodesha. It was here on March 4 that she met her future husband Harold Small on a blind date .  They were married on June 4, 1950.   They were married for 62 happy years.  They were blessed with five children, seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
Pansy has worn many hats in her life. She has been a daughter,  teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She has created happiness and many memories for family and friends. Pansy was an active member of the Sycamore Valley Extension Group .  Harold and Pansy loved to fly in their plane.  They spent many happy years flying to see family and friends. As active members of the Kansas Flying Farmers they enjoyed many memorable events with friends.
