Paulla L. Mitchell, a beloved wife, mother, educator, and friend, passed away on April 20, 2026, leaving a profound impact on the lives of all who knew her. Born on June 16, 1951, in Independence, Kansas, Paulla was the daughter of William "Bill" and JoAnn Wyman. She graduated from Caney High School in 1969, marking the beginning of a life dedicated to learning and teaching.
On June 19, 1970, Paulla married her devoted husband, Gregg Mitchell, and together they built a loving home for their three children. In 1978, the couple made the move to Neodesha, Kansas, where Paulla’s passion for education flourished. She pursued higher learning and earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Science from Pittsburg State University in 1991.
Paulla began her teaching career at Independence Middle School before making a significant impact at Neodesha Jr. High School, where she taught her students until retiring in 2016. Her dedication to her students and her enthusiasm for education inspired countless young minds, and her presence in the classroom will be deeply missed.
Paulla is survived by her loving husband, Gregg Mitchell, children Michele (Dave) Vanwinkle of Independence, Kansas, Kim Mitchell of Neodesha, Kansas, and Brian (Natasha) Mitchell of Overland Park, Kansas, brother Steve (Jackie) Wyman of Woodlands, Texas, sister, Carol (Dave) Welchon of Woodlands, Texas, aunts, Nancy Crawford of Frisco, Texas and Doranne Wyman of Lake Jackson, Texas, grandchildren, Nikki (Jake) Lowery of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Ryan (Dalice) Redington of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Belle Mitchell of Lawrence, Kansas, great grandchildren, Jenner and Jagger Lowery of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Paxson and Poppy Redington of Claremore, Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at the Loran Fawcett Chapel on April 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at the Neodesha City Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Paulla's life and legacy, sharing stories and memories that reflect the light she brought into the world.
In this time of mourning, let us come together to remember Paulla not only for her contributions as an educator but also for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering spirit. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered forever.
Paulla is preceded in death by her parents Bill and JoAnn Wyman.
