Roy H. Gray Roy Buck Hudson Gray of Neodesha, KS, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the Wilson Medical Center Reece Campus. He was 91. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Inurnment will be at Altoona Cemetery following the service. Pastor DeWayne Prosser will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home to register. The son of Samuel Jackson and Artie Meacy Corbin Gray, he was born June 18, 1917, in rural Neodesha, KS. He received his education in Neodesha. He served with the US Army during WWII from February of 1941 until January of 1945 and attained the rank of Sergeant in the 161st Field Artillery. On October 7, 1955, he was united in marriage to Margie Rhea Davis in Neodesha, KS. She survives at the home. Mr. Gray was employed by the Union Tank Car Co. for 37 years as a tank car repairman. He was a resident of Neodesha until 1957 when he and his wife relocated to El Dorado, KS. They returned to Neodesha in 1996. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in El Dorado, KS; a sixty-four year member of the American Legion; a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans; and the 35th Division Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kent Gray of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Curtis Gray of Junction City, KS; one daughter, Kathy Griffin of Lenexa, KS; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Faye Phillips, Maye Schmitz and Lucille Hicks; and one infant brother. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altoona Cemetery.
