Rubie Kirk

Rubie Raylene Kirk, 73, of Neodesha, Kansas, passed away Sunday December 23, 2018 in her home with loving family by her side.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Bethel Church, east of Neodesha, KS on Highway 75, with viewing and visitation from 12:00pm to service time at the church.

Rubie R. Kirk was born January 20, 1945 in Neodesha, KS, the daughter of Robert (Dutch) and Zelma (Holliday) Ballard. Rubie attended school in Neodesha, KS. She lived in Neodesha most of her life and lived in Independence, KS several years before moving back to Neodesha, KS. Rubie worked as a line fabricator for ACC in Independence, KS until her retirement. Rubie loved working in her yard and flower gardens, sewing and crochet, spending time talking to her friends and neighbors, and reading romance novels. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting on her porch, drinking coffee or iced tea, and watching people go by. But most of all, Rubie loved spending time with her loving family. Rubie and her significant husband, Mike, have been together since 2007.

Rubie is survived by one son, Larry Schafer (wife Lisa) of Durham, KS, three daughters; Brenda Prather of the home in Neodesha, KS, Debie Cunningham of Wichita, KS, and Tammie Royston of Neodesha, KS, and daughter-in-law, Robbin Schafer of Altamont, KS. She was grandmother to nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Rubie is preceded in death by her parents, one son, James R. Schafer in December of 2014, and two brothers; Everett Ballard and Ernest Ballard. Memorials can be made in Rubie's name to American Cancer Society and can be left with the Loran Fawcett Chapel.
