It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shelby Duane Howard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on February 13, 2026. Born on November 25, 1937, in Montgomery County, he was the cherished son of Gordon and Valeda Howard.
On August 6, 1961, Shelby married Janice Louise Howard, the love of his life, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love and adventure. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Michele and Scott, whose spirits he nurtured with unwavering devotion.Shelby found great fulfillment in his career as an accountant, where his tenacity and dedication shone through. Throughout his life, he tirelessly worked to provide for his family while fostering a deep appreciation for the simple joys that life offers. He relished the beauty of nature, meticulously caring for his yard, where each blade of grass seemed to echo his profound respect for creation.
A man of faith, Shelby found solace and strength in his church and his relationship with the Lord, which guided him through both trials and triumphs. His zest for life took him and Janice on countless journeys across 49 states and the provinces of Canada, seeking beauty and kinship in all corners of the world, while also embracing southern Texas in the winter time for 18 years.Shelby was a member of the Lions Club, where he made lasting connections with others who shared his passion for service and community. He will be lovingly remembered for his warm smile, gentle spirit, and the laughter he brought to those around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Valeda, his son Scott Howard , and his daughter Michele Dixon, as well as his great-granddaughter, Madeline Shinkle. He leaves behind a legacy of love, embodied in his beloved wife, Janice, his treasured grandchildren, Noel (Shawn) O'Kane and Ashton Dotterer, his eight great-grandchildren: Mathew Shinkle, Michael Shinkle, Easton O'Kane, Ashtyn O'Kane, Peyton O'Kane, Kieran Foster, Kody Foster, Kennadie Spellins, and a great-great-granddaughter, Hudsyn Shinkle.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene on February 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor Shelby's remarkable journey with remembrance and love, as we bid farewell to a man whose heart was a beacon of kindness and devotion.
As we remember Shelby Duane Howard, let us carry forth his legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith, ensuring that his spirit continues to inspire those he has touched throughout his life.
Memorial donations will be made out to the Samaritan’s Purse International Relief in remembrance of Shelby Duane Howard.
