Steven K. White Steven Kent White of Thayer, KS, died Monday, October 10, 2011, at the Cherryvale Care Facility. He was 67. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at the Church of Christ in Neodesha under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be in Grenola Cemetery in Grenola, KS, at a later date. Mr. White will lie in state Friday from 9 a.m. 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 57 p.m. at the funeral home. The son of Kent and Lucille Swift White, he was born June 8, 1944, in Oakland, CA. He later moved to Winfield, KS where he graduated from high school in 1962. He attended York College in York, NE, and Oklahoma Christian College before receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS. Steve received two masters degrees from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. On December 11, 1962, he was united in marriage to Joana Lou Hawkins in Winfield, KS. She survives at the home. He and Joana moved to Neodesha in 1968 when took a position as a history teacher for Neodesha High School. He later became the high school counselor where he remained until retiring in 2004. Steve was a member of the Church of Christ in Neodesha. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert White and his wife Dana of Girard, KS, and Tim White and his wife Machell of Spanish Fort, AL one sister, LaDonna Lackner of Kansas City, KS one brother, Richard Braddy of Chouteau, OK four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents one brother, Roger Dean White one granddaughter, Keegan White. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers and Related Diseases Assn. or Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left at the funeral home.
