Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Terry Lynn Secrest, age 81, on September 1, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Neodesha Cemetery. In honor of Terry’s signature style, family and friends are warmly invited to wear jeans and a black pocket T-shirt—a fitting tribute that surely would have made him smile. The family invites the Mr. Shifters Car Club members to drive their prized vehicles in the procession to the cemetery. Please be at the Funeral home at 10:30 if you would like to be in the procession. Following the service, all are welcome to gather and celebrate Terry’s life at the Catholic Church Hall.

Terry was born on August 8, 1945, in Rosston, Oklahoma, to Delbert Hartie Secrest and Edna Maxine Secrest. He spent most of his life in Neodesha, graduating from Neodesha High School. Throughout his life, Terry was known for his tireless work ethic, deep devotion to family, and genuine zest for living.

In 1964, Terry married Vickie Ann Secrest. Though they later parted ways, they reunited in marriage in 1979 and shared a devoted life together until her passing in 2014. In 2015, Terry found love and happiness again when he married Tamara Kathryn Secrest, sharing 11 wonderful years together until his passing.

A proud veteran, Terry served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War, holding the rank of Specialist 4, and finishing his service as an acting Sergeant upon his honorable discharge. He carried the values of loyalty and duty throughout his life, serving as a lifetime member and past president of the local VFW. He was also an active, passionate member of the Mr. Shifters Car Club.

A true craftsman, mechanics was far more than a trade for Terry—it was his calling. He was always happiest with his hands under the hood, diagnosing engines, tinkering with vintage cars, and bringing old machinery back to life. As a master automotive painter, his meticulous eye and skilled craftsmanship turned every vehicle into a work of art. Terry’s adventurous spirit also took him across the nation’s highways as a long-haul

truck driver and through demanding days working in the oil fields. Whatever the job, he tackled it with honest pride and unwavering dedication.

Above all, Terry’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured every gathering and made lasting memories with those he loved most. He is survived by his beloved wife, Tamara; his children: Danny Anderes (Kim), Michelle Bohannon (Jamie), Tammy Leck, Shane Secrest (Karla), and Ashley Secrest; 12 cherished grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren, all of whom adored their "Grandpa Terry" and "Papa Terry." He also held a close, lasting bond with his siblings: sister Christine Porter, brother Gary Secrest (Dorsianne), and brother Ron Secrest, and step siblings: Sharon Wright (Charley) both deceased, Charlotte, Schultz (Grover, deceased), and Gary Jones (Alberta) both deceased.

Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie Secrest, and his parents, Delbert Secrest and Maxine (Secrest) Jones.

Terry’s warmth, humor, smile, and steadfast love will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the lives he touched, and the work of his hands.

Memorial contributions may be made in Terry’s honor to the Mr. Shifters Car Club Scholarship Fund and left in care of the funeral home.
