Veda Kay Weaver

August 3, 1940 — December 16, 2025

Neodesha, KS

Veda Kay Weaver, 85, passed away on December 16, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on August 3, 1940, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Viola Marie Myers and Manly David Ellett.

Veda was born and raised in Pocatello. Her father passed away when she was just seven years old, a loss that deeply shaped her early life and strengthened the close bonds she shared with her family. She maintained a lifelong love for her siblings and treasured time spent with them.

She graduated from Pocatello High School in 1958 and later attended classes at Diablo Valley College. While her husband, Jack, served in the United States Navy, Veda lived in Virginia, Idaho, and California. Following his service, they settled in California, where they raised their children and built a life centered on family.

When her children were young, Veda worked in a school cafeteria and later became a professional seamstress. After Jack’s retirement, the couple moved to Jerome, Idaho, so they could spend more time with Veda’s family. They later relocated to Neodesha, Kansas, where Veda and Jack worked side by side at the Fall River Trading Company. When she was not at the store, Veda devoted her time to caring for her grandchildren, a role she cherished deeply.

Veda and Jack eventually moved back to Jerome, Idaho, where she lived until 2021. At that time, she moved to American Fork, Utah, to live with her daughter and her family. In 2022, she returned to Neodesha, Kansas, where she remained until her passing.

Veda was a devoted and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the time she spent as a volunteer at the Twin Falls, Idaho Temple while living in Jerome, Idaho. While living in Neodesha, she was a member of the Independence Ward, where she found fellowship, service, and strength.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Weaver; her parents; and many of her siblings: Robert Livingston, DeVar Ellett, Maureen Ellett, Eva Saxton, David Ellett, Reed Ellett, LaRee Woods, Lee Earl Ellett, Jay Ellett, and Wayne Ellett.

She is survived by her children, Tamara McMurray (married to Robert McMurray) and Thomas Weaver (married to Holli); her grandchildren Sheila Homer (married to Alex), Isaac Weaver, Benjamin Weaver (married to Emmy), Eli Weaver, Jack Hatton (married to Morgan), Rachel Havili (married to Maika), and Max McMurray; and eight step-grandchildren: Elizabeth Taylor (married to John), Michael McMurray, Courtney Jacober (married to Stephen), Brandon McMurray (married to Megan), Savannah Craig (married to Ben), Sierra Isayev (married to Erich), Joseph McMurray (married to Thessalonia), and Nolan McMurray (married to Ashley). She was also blessed with 24 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings Anita Ridley, Ray Ellett, Fern Phillips, and Ed Ellett.

Above all, Veda loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She delighted in sharing photos of her great-grandchildren with anyone who would take the time to look. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters and her children and found joy in life’s quieter moments—quilting, knitting, doing puzzles, and reading mystery and crime novels.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Independence, Kansas, on December 30. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will take place immediately afterward at the Neodesha Cemetery.

Veda Kay Weaver will be remembered for her deep devotion to family, her faith, her creativity, and the love she so generously shared throughout her life.
