Velva Lorene Binning, aged 84, of Neodesha, Kansas, peacefully passed away on November 7, 2025. Born on February 17, 1941, in Lamoni, Iowa, Velva dedicated her life to being a caregiver, offering her compassion and warmth to those around her.
Throughout her life, Velva was known for her beautiful smile and kind heart, a combination that endeared her to family, friends, and the residents of Neodesha Care and Rehabilitation Center, where she spent her final years. Her love for horses, flowers, and cats were complemented by her passion for painting, particularly capturing the beauty of horses and tranquil landscapes on canvas. Velva was a talented painter, earning numerous awards for her work, which often depicted the serene charm of rural life.
In addition to her artistic talents, she found joy in life's simple pleasures, such as enjoying milkshakes from Dairy Queen, exploring her love for Bob Ross and art, and admiring the intricacies of nature during car rides. Velva had a special bond with her niece-in-law, Shawna, whose tender care and companionship provided comfort and joy in her life.
Velva's family was ever-present in her heart, and her devotion to them was clear. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Charles Reynolds, and a cherished family of nieces and nephews: Julie Olsen (Amanda), Cynthia Hesslewood (Sean), Michael Barnhill, Phillip Reynolds (Shawna), and Warren Reynolds (Jennifer). Her legacy also lives on through her many great-nieces and nephews, including Rowan Olsen, Troy Olsen, Tess Matthiesen, Timothy Toms, Collin Bohannon, Makayla Beach (Shaun), Wyatt Reynolds, Dylan Reynolds, Jordan Jantz (Lori), Joshua Jantz (Madison), Rachel Schoening (Elias), Jacob Jantz (Bryce), Luke Jantz, and Noah Jantz (Courtney).
Velva was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Era Binning, and her half-brother, William Binning. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her, as she brought light into every room and every heart she touched. She will be deeply missed by her beloved family, friends, staff, and residents at Neodesha Care and Rehabilitation Center. Her spirit will live on through the many lives she enriched.
Services are under the care of Loran Fawcett Chapel. To honor Velva’s remarkable life, services will be held on November 13, 2025, at Bible Baptist Church in Neodesha, Kansas, where there will be a visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Neodesha Cemetery.
