Virginia Steele

Virginia A. Steele of Neodesha, KS, died Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Neodesha. She was 93. Mass of Christian Burial will be recited at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 04, 2011, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Father Benjamin Shockey of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Independence, KS will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery. Rosary will be recited Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Friends may call at the funeral home to register on Thursday from 84 p.m. Virginia Agnes Steele was born January 30, 1918 in Fredonia, Kansas to Clarence L. amp Clara A. Mount Mellen. She received her education and graduated high school from Fredonia High School. She worked at Golden Keys in Neodesha and the Kelley Hotel in Neodesha along with various other jobs but the job she was most proud of was that of being a devoted mother and loving grandmother. She was member of the Frisco Railroad Auxiliary, St. Ignatius Catholic Church, St. Ignatius Catholic Church Altar Society and Royal Neighbors. Virginia married Oscar E. Steele on September 25, 1942 in Fredonia, Kansas and he preceded her death on June 15, 1963. Survivors include one son Gayle Steele of Neodesha, one daughter, Rita Banta of Neodesha, a brother, Lyle D. Mellen of Fredonia and one sister, Crystal McAdam of Tampa, Florida five grandchildren Don S. Banta, Kelli Powell, Stacy Banta, Jennifer Delong and Pattie Steele and five greatgrandchildren. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Ignatius Catholic Church Building Fund and memorials may be left at the funeral home.
