Wanda Haynes

May 27, 1939 — March 31, 2023

Wanda Haynes, 83, went to her heavenly home on Friday, March 31, 2023, after a brief illness.  A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a faithful Christian who loved her family, her church, and her community.

Wanda Jean (Grider) Haynes was the youngest of seven children born to Glenn Ivan Grider and Kathrine Mahala (Jones) Grider in Columbus, KS.  She grew up in Columbus, KS and graduated from Cherokee County High School.  She met Connie Mack Haynes on a blind date, soon they were married, raised two daughters, and  loved one another for over 40 years. Wanda worked for Town & Country’s corporate office in Parsons, KS.  Upon Mack’s death in 1996, she moved to Neodesha and went to work for Crescent Oil, retiring in 2004.

She was a loyal Beta Sigma Phi Sorority sister, serving in several leadership positions.  She also enjoyed monthly lunches with the Birthday Club. Reading was her favorite pastime; she served many years on the board of the W.A. Rankin Library and was a Friend of the Library.

Wanda was a devoted parishioner having attended Cherryvale Presbyterian Church and later Neodesha United Methodist Church.  She was active in Bible studies and the United Methodist Women.

Wanda was notably one of Get Fit’s most dedicated, longest gym members.  Having been a member for over 20 years, she was known to walk miles on the treadmill while getting lost in a good book. She said she exercised to keep in shape so she could continue to serve others.

Wanda is survived by two sisters, Marlene Amos and Betty Simone, her two daughters, Carla (Roger) White and Teresa (Ralph) Johnson, seven grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 9:00 am at Neodesha United Methodist Church, 802 Indiana St., Neodesha, KS  66757, followed by her funeral at 10:00 am.  She will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Cherryvale, KS beside her beloved husband.
