Wayne Sexton

d. March 4, 2009

Wayne S. Sexton Wayne Staley Sexton, 91, formerly of Neodesha, Kan., and Alvin, TX, peacefully went home to be with Jesus Sunday, March 1, 2009, after more than a 20-year battle with prostate cancer. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Arlington, TX, with viewing one hour before the service. Interment will be in the Neodesha Cemetery in Neodesha, KS, at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009. He was an inspiration to others struggling with the disease. He never complained about his battle and his goal was to make it to 100 years and he almost made it. Wayne was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Neodesha, Kan., the son of William Sumner and Mary Crystal Witt Sexton. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1936. He married Dorothy Marie Reynolds of Neodesha in Independence, KS, on Oct. 19, 1940. Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Tills as a diesel engineer until 1946. After the war, he worked for the power and water plant in Neodesha as a diesel engineer. Then, he accepted a job with Standard Oil of Indiana in Neodesha and worked there until 1970. He and Dorothy moved to Alvin in 1970 and he helped open the Chemical Division of AMOCO at Chocolate Bayou. He worked there until his retirement in 1982. Wayne and Dorothy moved to Arlington in 1988 to be near their daughter, Judy, and her family. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer that year. Wayne was a hard worker and a man of many talents. He was builder of houses and churches. He loved making things for his many friends. He loved his church and attended Crossroads Christian Church. He sat in the same seat each Sunday so he could greet each of the people as they came. He never missed unless he was sick. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph, Lowell and Jack; and his sister, Mary Virginia Hamilton. He will be missed but we know he is busy in heaven now. Survivors include Dorothy, his wife of 68 years; his daughter, Judith Judy and her husband, Dr. Robert Neill; his grandson, David Neill; and his cat, Jimmy.
