YVONNE BARNEY It was with loving arms that Linda Barney Berrigan welcomed her mom, Yvonne Barney into Heaven last Saturday evening at Wilson Medical Center Reece Campus in Neodesha, Kansas. She was surrounded by family as she succumbed to the effects of a stroke she suffered at home Thursday morning. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, was a Girl Scout Leader for 15 years, a former member of the Wilson County Unit of the American Cancer Society and was a member of the Wilson County Hospital Auxiliary. Yvonne worked at City Hall in Neodesha for 17 years and was city collector of utilities at the time of her retirement. Daughter of Maude Julian and George E. Martinson, she was born August 2, 1926 in Neodesha. Yvonne attended Neodesha schools graduating with the Class of 1944. She married Charles Barney on June 21, 1944 at Yates Center, Kansas, since he had enlisted in the Army Air Force Cadet Training and left in August. Yvonne and Charles were reunited in Sioux Falls a few months later while he attended radio school. She lived with her sister Thelma and her husband Murlin Blackstun and gave birth to daughter Linda. Yvonne later returned to Neodesha when Charles left for Germany and has been a resident since. She is preceded in death by infant son, Michael Dean, daughter Linda and her daughter Whiteny, son Michael Dean Berrigan, her parents, her sister Thelma Blackstun, her brother Glen Martinson and great grandson, Brock Pendleton. Survivors include: her husband Charles of the home; two daughters, Cindy and her husband Terry Pendleton of Neodesha and Lisa and her husband David Schwob of Pittsburg, Kansas, two grandsons, Matthew Schwob of Pittsburg, Tony and his wife Kim Pendleton of Fredonia; three grand daughters, Kelsey Schwob of Pittsburg, Tara and her husband Jim Stuber of Galva, Kansas and Talia and her husband Marcus Lech of Neodesha, Kansas; and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Neodesha with the Reverend Kris Brinlee, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Neodesha Cemetery. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday. The family has suggested memorial remembrances to the United Methodist Church of Neodesha or the W.A. Rankin Library. Remembrances will be received at the funeral home.
