Arthur Lewis

On Friday October 29, 2021, Arthur "Kirk' Lewis passed away at home surrounded by family at the age of 81. Kirk was born on July 10, 1940, to Chester & Theo Mae (Keith) Lewis in Longton, Ks. He attended various country schools before graduating from Coffeyville High School in 1958.
On July 28, 1960, he was married the love of his life, Gloria Duke. Together they raised two sons, David, and Daryl and one daughter Susan.
Kirk always loved the outdoors and his hobbies included hunting, fishing, and camping. He was talented craftsman and made almost anything he set his mind to. He crafted various knives, bows. arrowheads, chainsaw carvings, furniture and hand-carved & painted birds. He was an avid reader and especially loved reading about survival skills and native American culture. He learned to tan the deer hide to leather and used the sinew to make his bows. He was a member of the Independence Gun Club and Muzzleloader club. He had a multitude of hobbies throughout his lifetime including running, wine making, gardening and he excelled at all of them. Kirk was a carpenter, plumbing, mechanic and just about anything he needed to be. One of his greatest accomplishments was purchasing a three-story home for $1 and moving it from its location on Main Street to Pinochle hill. He was also a member of the Bible Baptist Church and taught Sunday school classes. Kirk was employed at IMCO/Southeast Mfg. for 20 years as an implement salesman. He had the gift of gab and never met a stranger. He loved telling stories and sharing his experiences.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Hazel Lewis. Two sisters, Maurita Miller and Marilyn Gilson, one stepsister Erma Tattersall, and one son, Daryl.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, his son David Lewis, Sedan, Ks, daughter Susan (Danny) Apollo, Neodesha, two sisters Linda Hudiburg and Janice Ballenger. Twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the Bible Baptist church in Neodesha at 2pm. The family will have a visitation prior to the funeral at 1pm to service time. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be left per donor's choice to one of the following: Alzheimer's Association, Independence Gun Club, Morningstar Care Homes of Neodesha, or the Rankin Memorial Library.
