Charles Koger

April 21, 1927 — December 5, 2020

Dr. Charles Anderson Koger 93 of Independence, KS. formerly of Neodesha, KS. passed away Saturday December 5, 2020 at his home in Independence, KS.
Because of the Covid 19 pandemic, a Memorial service will take place sometime in January at the Neodesha United Methodist Church and the date and time will be announce in the Neodesha Derrick before the service.
Charles Anderson Koger was born April 21, 1927 in Peru, Kansas the son of Leonard M and Mary Hazel (Ingmire) Koger and grew up in McPherson from 1933 to 1941 and the family moved to Coffeyville, KS. and Charles graduated from Field Kinley High School in 1945. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 to 1946 WWII and was station in Germany when he was Discharged from the Army, he attended Coffeyville Community College and Graduated in 1947 and attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, and Graduated in 1950.
Charles was united in marriage to Vi Matzenbacher on December 22, 1950 in Centralia, Ill. and they moved to Neodesha, KS. where they made their home. Vi preceded Charles in death on May 18, 2004.
Charles bought Dr George Kyle’s Practice in 1950 in Neodesha and ran it till he retired in 1992. Charles was a member of the United Methodist Church of Neodesha and the pass Sunday school Superintendent for the church, and still a member of the Neodesha Rotary Club since 1951 being the longest member in the Neodesha Rotary Club. Charles was a member of the Kansas Optometric Association a life member and was elected outstanding Optometrist of the year in 1992. Charles was a life member of the V. F. W. and American Legion, and a member of the Wilson County Hospital Auxiliary. Charles also served as President of the Neodesha Chamber of Commerce in 1959. In 1962 Charles started the Community Fund of Neodesha and was the Chairman, He was also the President of the Meadowlark Girls Scouts. Charles also served as Mayor of the City of Neodesha from 1978 to 1980. Charles Koger was a great member of this Community many years.
Charles is survived by daughter Lenette Gudde of Independence, KS. and son Robert Koger of Richmond, KS. and 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife Vi Koger and his parents Leonard M and Mary Hazel Koger and Brothers Murrill Koger and Leonard Koger and sister Virginia Baldwin.
Memorials can be left in Charles’s name to the Neodesha United Methodist Church and can be left with the Loran Fawcett Chapel of Neodesha, KS. On-Line condolences can be left to the family by going to www.loranfawcettfuneralhome.com
