Garland Brown

Garland Dee Brown, 72, of Neodesha, passed away peacefully with family by his side at Wilson Medical Center on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020.

Garland was born Sept. 10, 1948 in Independence, KS to Dee Troy and Nan Rosemary (Wilkins) Brown. He grew up in Cherryvale, KS and attended Cherryvale schools, transferring to Labette County High School in Altamont, KS as a junior and graduated in 1967. After graduation he worked at Welco Aerospace in Wellington, KS in the bur shop. In 1968, Garland began his service in the U.S. Army at Ft. Rucker, AL. Then worked in the postal service and trained for Huey crew chief. SP/4 Brown finished his military service in April of 1971.

On July 24, 1971 Garland was united in marriage to Linda Jewett at the First Christian Church in Cherryvale. They made their home in Neodesha.

The couple were blessed by the birth of their daughter, DeeAnne, in 1979.

After the two were married, Garland worked at Vallis-Wyngroff in Cherryvale, then Prestige in Neodesha. Later he worked in upholstery, stores and the foam room at Cobalt Boats in Neodesha for 34 years. He then worked at the Neodesha City Library before retiring.

Garland enjoyed hunting and fishing, mushroom hunting, traveling, camping and barbequing, working in the garden and tinkering in the garage. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes for competition. He was a member of the Cherryvale Methodist Church and the Neodesha Senior Citizens Center.

Garland is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda, of the home; one daughter, DeeAnne (Bill) Tigner, of Neodesha; twin brother, Arland Lee Brown, of Cherryvale; brother-in-law, David (Dianthia) Jewett, of Cherryvale; nieces, Heather Turner and Davia (Chad) Knight, all of Cherryvale; great niece, Hydee Turner, of Parsons, KS; and four great nephews, Schuyler Turner of Pittsburg, KS and Jackson, Briggs and Harrison Knight of Cherryvale.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Hudson Michael Dee Tigner.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Loran Fawcett Chapel, 704 Indiana, Neodesha.  Celebration of Life will be held Monday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 1001 Elm St, Neodesha. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.

Memorials may be made in Garland’s name to Christ Church of Neodesha or AWOL in Independence, KS.
